The Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce was looking for a new, modern logo and brand that would better represent the changing demographics of the region’s youthful community while still representing the needs of business owners. Additionally, the new brand needed to be accepted by the organization’s board members and membership.
nine10 created a new identity for the Chamber that included vibrant, region-friendly colours and a font that presented itself as friendly and professional. Additionally, the new brand came complete with a style guide that could be shared with vendors and partners to ensure brand consistency.
Approval was gained at the first concept. Through the use of membership surveys, board feedback, and staff guidance, minor tweaks were made and the new identity and standards guide was completed.
Each identity that nine10 creates has reasoning and a story. In this case, the icon represents the Chamber as the basic building block that connects businesses and creates new opportunities for everybody involved. It represents strength in community because removing any piece from the symbol would cause it to lose meaning. By bringing the pieces together, pathways are formed between them—representing how everybody working together creates new pathways to opportunity. The colours of the logo were derived from a combination of the existing brand’s colours (blue and orange.) Green was also introduced to represent new beginnings for the Chamber, which was looking to entice a new generation of business owners to network and get involved in the issues that will affect their business.
The planning and thought that we put into the branding process saved the Chamber time and money by not having to go through multiple excruciating rounds of revisions. The concept soared through four levels of approval, from the Membership Committee to the Board, without any roadblocks. Overall, the new identity was met with a very positive reception and is proudly in use by the Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce.
